Jordyn

We’re running a series on our instructors – but the side you don’t see in the studio every day. Get to know our team even better through these interviews and hopefully we can all connect on an even deeper level.

Jorydn joined our team last year and fit in instantly. She’s spent this time focusing on herself and building her own brand, a bodyweight called JBDOY. We talked to her about that, what she eats in a day, and of course, her everyday makeup routine (because if you know Jordyn, you know her love for makeup).

How are you doing?

On a scale of 1-10, I’d say 7, which is actually pretty high. I expected to be going crazier since before all of this I taught on the higher end of classes, so I really went from 100 to 0. I thought about what I needed during this time and the two most important things to me were staying connected to people and staying active, so I’ve made sure to make sure both of those are still happening. It’s tough being away from people, especially since I’m so social and outgoing, and I miss human interaction.

Do you have any advice?

A silver lining in all of this is how much better I’ve been at staying in touch with my family and especially extended family. It’s been great to talk to them more often and I would recommend everyone reach out to friends or family they may not have talked to as often before.

I would also say take the time for self-care, to sleep, and appreciate little things everyday. It helps me to be active, even if it’s just 30 minutes each day for a walk or at home workout.

So you haven’t just been staying active, you created a signature class and teach it a few times a day over Zoom. What is it?

Ever since I started working in fitness I knew I wanted to create my own class format. I wanted to take parts of other group fitness and combine them and put “me” in a workout. I had been thinking about it for a while and this was the final push for me to do it.

It’s a full body, bodyweight workout (you can use light weights or ankle weights if you want but it’s not necessary) and it’s all to the beat of the music. I love music and moving to music and I took the things that I love from spin, like high energy, cardio, and choreography. I love doing it and haven’t seen another class that does exactly this so I feel like it’s definitely my own.

I have the full body class which is JBODY, JBODY X ABS, and JBOOTY. The schedule is on my website (https://www.jbody.live/).

On your instructor bio page you mentioned that you played field hockey on Team USA. How did you get into that?

I grew up in New Hampshire and started playing field hockey in 4th grade. I got good quickly and played over summers and in showcases and I made it into USA Futures, which is an elite junior program that leads to the Olympics. I was recruited by a number of colleges and chose to go to Boston College. I played there and made the U.S. National Team.

After college, I was burnt out and stopped playing. I’ve done some private lessons for students but other than that haven’t really played since college.

Obviously you’re very active; what does a typical day of eating look like?

My food thought process is that I understand which foods are healthy and which aren’t healthy and I try to eat 80% healthy and then the other 20% I indulge (usually on Sundays with takeout).

Here’s what a sample day looks like:

Breakfast: Coffee and two slices of toast (I love Sara Lee 45 calorie bread because it tastes just like regular bread) with an egg (over hard), a slice of cheese, and a slice of honey ham.

Lunch: I’ve been into prepackaged salads that you mix yourself. My favorite has carrots, tomato, and broccoli and I’ll add almonds and strawberries.

Snack: Cinnamon sugar rice cakes with chunky peanut butter

Dinner: I try to have a protein, carb, and veggies, so we’ll make chicken or steak, sauté veggies on the stove, and mashed potatoes.

I’ve taken multiple makeup recommendations from you — can you do a rundown of your top products?

I became obsessed with watching YouTube tutorials on how to do makeup. The biggest thing I learned from watching those is that the better you are, the less product you actually need to use. You get the best look by knowing correct placement and using the right products.

These are my favorite products:
